Behrampore MP Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury has been appointed as West Bengal Congress president, virtually erasing any chance of a Congress-Trinamool alliance for 2014 polls. Mr Chowdhury is known as a Mamata baiter and has challenged her to contest against him at Behrampore, saying he would appreciate a fight with the only 'man' in Trinamool Congress. He also holds in his hand the future of Congress MP from Jangipur, Abhijit Mukherjee, who is also President Pranab Mukherjee's son. Mr Mukherjee's seat is in Murshidabad, the district Mr Chowdhury controls. Last time, Mr Mukherjee had won by a margin by just 2500-odd votes.
