A team of food safety officials from Kerala have reported that farmers in nine districts of neighbouring Tamil Nadu are using three to five times the permitted amount of pesticides in growing vegetables. With 80 per cent of all vegetables consumed in the state coming from Tamil Nadu, the Kerala government has written to its counterpart in Chennai, calling for crackdown on the excessive use of pesticides.
