One of India's living legends has passed into history. Field Marshal Sam Manekshaw, who led the Indian Army to victory in the 1971 war with Pakistan, passed away on Friday at the age of 94. A state funeral was held for him at Ooty. He's lived at Wellington near Ooty since he retired in 1973. Sam Manekshaw was a hero to his Gorkha soldiers even as a young second lieutenant fighting the Japanese in the Second World War.
