There will be no carbon dating to determine the age of what is said to be a "Shivling" at Varanasi's Gyanvapi mosque, the city's top judge ruled, rejecting a request by a group of women - Shiva devotees - who want to pray inside the mosque complex. The mosque committee objected to any investigation, arguing that the case was about worshipping at a shrine inside the mosque and had nothing to do with its structure. The mosque committee’s lawyer told NDTV that any such survey as carbon dating would violate the Supreme Court’s guidelines.
