Presidential poll shouldn't become a political fight: Somnath Chatterjee

After his name sprung up as a surprise probable for the President of India, former Lok Sabha Speaker Somnath Chatterjee told NDTV that he was humbled by the prospect of being considered for the highest office in the country. The Trinamool Congress and the Samajwadi Party have - in a move that stunned all, more so the Congress - mooted Mr Chatterjee's name as one of their preferred choices for Rashtrapati Bhavan. The former Left leader, though, said that it would be a sad day for the country if the presidential election turned into a fight between political parties.
