Prime Minister Narendra Modi opened India's longest bridge in Assam today at the first of many events to celebrate the third anniversary of his government. Naming the bridge after Assamese icon Bhupen Hazarika, he accused the previous administration of holding up the link that people of the state "had dreamt about for five decades". Celebrations of the government's anniversary - which also coincides with the first year of the BJP government in Assam - will last 20 days. Ministers and lawmakers from the BJP meanwhile will be participating in programmes across the country.
