India backs UN resolution to end Syria violence

India has voted in favour of a United Nations resolution backing an Arab League peace plan that calls for ending the violence and a peaceful negotiated settlement in Syria. In the official statement, India opposes use of force and favours a political dialogue. Russia and China vetoed the resolution at the UNSC that called on the Syrian President Bashar Assad to step down, while India along with the US and 12 others backed the move.
