India's Daughters: Unsafe In Womb, Unsafe In Life?

We look at where the idea of women's safety figures in 'New India'. This week was perhaps the worst in many months when it comes to the safety of our daughters who continue to bear the brunt of horrific abuse even before they are born. Take the case of Haryana: the state considered the most notorious when it comes to gender count. Concerning news came this week that the sex at birth ratio between January and June in the state this week has fallen sharply to the worst levels since 2016. It did see significant improvement in the past couple of years but it has now started dipping again which comes as serious blow to the government's 'beti bachao, beti padhao' campaign. The reason: illegal sex determination tests being conducted in a coordinated inter-state racket.
