A new report by the Comptroller and Auditor General of India has revealed exorbitant increases in highway construction costs under the Bharatmala Pariyojana. The report says that while the sanctioned costs exceeded approved costs by 58%, even then only 38% of the target has been completed, one year after the deadline. Not just this, the report reveals that construction awards were given based on falsified documents. The CAG said that the Dwarka to Gurugram expressway is developed at the very high cost of Rs 250.77 crore per kilometer as against cabinet approved cost of Rs 18.20 crore per km. The CAG's report also reveals that toll rules have been violated and road users have been charged around 154 crore rupees of undue toll taxes just in South India
