Assam is witnessing a covid surge. Yesterday, the northeastern state reported 844 cases with Guwahati reporting over 300 of those cases alone. Between December 27 to January 5, there have been a five-fold increase in the number of positive cases. Over all active caseload have doubled in 10 days, positivity rate has gone up almost 6 times. The state government has decided to ramp up facilities, and at the Guwahati medical college , the biggest covid facility in northeast, a new COVID ICU ward is being set up at a parking lot.
