There is panic among migrant workers in Tamil Nadu. People are being seen in large numbers leaving for their home states largely in north India. Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin has said deliberate rumours are being spread to create panic. He reassured his Bihar counterpart Nitish Kumar that all migrant workers are safe in the state and that swift action would be taken against rumour-mongers spreading panic. From the Chief Minister to the police, everyone has made appeals in Hindi for calm and for migrants to not leave. A case has been filed against BJP spokesperson from Uttar Pradesh Prashant Umrao for spreading rumours on social media about the "killing" of Bihar migrant workers in Tamil Nadu. An editor of a newspaper and owner of a local daily have also been named separately by the Tamil Nadu police.
