Newlyweds On Honeymoon Among 8 Missing After Cab Plunges 1000ft Into Teesta

A newlywed couple from Uttar Pradesh, went missing after their tourist vehicle plunged over 1,000 feet into the Teesta River in North Sikkim on May 29, 2025. The couple had arrived in Sikkim for their honeymoon and had booked a shared cab to visit North Sikkim. The accident occurred near Munsithang along the Lachen-Lachung highway in Mangan district. The vehicle was carrying 11 tourists, including individuals from Odisha, Tripura, and Uttar Pradesh. One person was confirmed dead, two were rescued with critical injuries, and eight, including the Singh couple, remain missing. Rescue operations have been severely hampered by incessant rainfall, rising water levels, and strong river currents.
