NDTV Impact: Maharashtra Govt Orders Probe Into 2,800% Hospital Markups

A Rs 2 syringe being billed at nearly Rs 60 and an IV set bought for ₹11 being charged at Rs 325 have put hospital mark-ups under the spotlight.

Maharashtra FDA Commissioner Tukaram Mundhe has flagged mark-ups of up to 2,841% on medical consumables and has sought pricing reforms from the Centre and the National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority (NPPA).

Now, in a big NDTV impact, Maharashtra Revenue Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule has taken cognisance of NDTV's report, calling the 2,800-percent mark-up a "massive blunder" and promising a high-level probe. The minister also says the government will take NDTV's campaign forward.
