Speaking aboard Air Force One, Trump said Washington is negotiating with nations heavily dependent on Middle East crude to join a coalition to police the key waterway amid the ongoing Iran conflict. While no commitments have been announced yet, the move comes as global oil prices surge and fuel costs rise in the United States. Trump also claimed that China receives nearly 90% of its oil through the strait, while the US depends on it far less.
