Maoists News | In Numbers: How India Is Closing In On A Maoist-Free Future

India is on the cusp of ending its decades-long Maoist insurgency, with affected districts falling from 126 in 2014 to just 11 in 2025. Violence has dropped dramatically, with civilian and security force deaths down over 90% since 2014. Record numbers of Maoist cadres are surrendering, outpacing arrests, signaling weakening leadership and shrinking recruitment. The turnaround is credited to the 2015 National Policy and Action Plan, combining enhanced security, infrastructure development, and rehabilitation programs. Roads, telecom networks, schools, and financial services have reached remote areas, while former militants receive training and financial support. With these measures bearing fruit, India aims to be Maoist-free by March 31, 2026.
