Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi on Sunday condemned the alleged rape and suicide of a Maharashtra doctor, calling it “a tragedy that should shake the conscience of any civilised society.” The Congress leader accused the ruling BJP government of fostering an environment where “criminals are shielded by power.” He said the young doctor, who had dedicated her life to helping others, was instead failed by the system — a system where those meant to protect the public turned perpetrators, and where influence and corruption silenced justice.
