Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya today at an NDTV conclave in Lucknow said that the Yogi Adityanath government is committed to improving law and order in the state. He also denied the opposition charges that the state government was giving a free hand to police on encounters. "Encounters take place when criminals fire at the police. The police have to retaliate," he said.
