Kolkata’s iconic College Street, Asia’s largest secondhand book hub, has been battered by heavy rains and waterlogging just ahead of Durga Puja. Tonnes of books have been destroyed, leaving booksellers in despair as they discard damaged stock in garbage dumps. Traders allege they received no warning of bad weather and blame the authorities for lack of preparedness.
