NDTV's ground investigation into the fatal Mercedes crash in Kochi has uncovered serious allegations of interference and preferential treatment involving Additional Sessions Judge Reno Xavier, whose 17-year-old son allegedly drove the car that killed 55-year-old street vendor Jayabalakrishnan. NDTV's Aswin Nandakumar reports allegations that photographs were deleted from a victim's family member's phone on the judge's instructions inside a police station, while a judge identification sticker was removed from the vehicle. Four police personnel have been suspended, and the Kerala government has announced plans to seek cancellation of the teenager's bail. The judge has been named in the case but, according to the report, has not yet been summoned for questioning. As the victim's family demands justice, serious questions remain over police conduct, accountability and whether the law is being applied equally.
