A 17-year-old boy, the son of a serving judge in Kerala, allegedly drove his father's Mercedes-Benz into a scooter in Kochi, killing the rider, Jayabalakrishnan. The accident occurred around 2:20 am on Sunday near Maraparambu on Container Road in Cheranalloor. Police registered a case under Sections 281 and 106(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, relating to rash driving and causing death by negligence. The teenager was detained and later released on station bail. Police say he will be summoned again as the investigation continues.
