Tribal families from the Peruvampadam Unnathi settlement in Kerala’s Malappuram district boycotted the December 11 local body elections, demanding land rights before casting their votes. Residents say over 300 people are forced to live on just 2.5 acres without basic facilities. Despite years of protests and political assurances, around 80 families are still waiting for land and dignified housing, prompting them to withhold their votes in protest.
