Ken-Betwa Project Row: Tribals Stage 'Chita Andolan', Jal Satyagraha Over Displacement Fears

A major protest movement has emerged in Madhya Pradesh's Chhatarpur district, where tribal communities affected by the Ken-Betwa river-linking project are staging dramatic demonstrations to demand rehabilitation and compensation. Protesters have adopted Gandhian methods including Jal Satyagraha, indefinite hunger strikes, Chita Andolan and Hanging Satyagraha to highlight their grievances. Men were seen floating on symbolic funeral pyres in the Barana River, while others wore nooses around their necks to protest alleged displacement, loss of livelihoods and inadequate compensation.
