The parents of every girl born at government facilities in Tamil Nadu's Cuddalore District are gifted a jackfruit sapling and a certificate signed by the Collector, S Suresh Kumar. Officials then follow up on the health of the sapling, and use it as a pretext to also check on the little girl. Measures such as these, combined with his crack down on child marriages and illegal sex determination centers has made Suresh Kumar a knight in shining armour for the 'Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao' campaign in the region.
