Iran's President Rejects Enforcing Stricter Hijab Law, Fearing Societal Conflict

Iran's President stated on Thursday that enforcing the controversial dress code law on women’s mandatory hijab could have sparked a "war" within society. The law, which imposes harsher punishments for women defying the hijab rule, was passed in September 2023 but has yet to be implemented. Last year, Iran paused the law due to widespread protests following the death of Mahsa Amini in 2022.
