Iran Launches Strait Of Hormuz Military Drill Ahead Of Geneva Nuclear Talks With US

Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has begun naval exercises in the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz, just a day before indirect nuclear negotiations with the United States in Geneva under Omani mediation. The drill, titled “Smart Control of the Strait of Hormuz,” aims to test operational readiness and response to maritime security threats. The move comes amid heightened tensions, with US President Donald Trump announcing the deployment of a second aircraft carrier to the Middle East. The USS Abraham Lincoln and accompanying destroyers are already stationed in the region. Despite military posturing from both sides, Tehran and Washington are set to resume nuclear discussions as diplomatic efforts continue.
