How much do we really know about the human brain? At IIT Madras, the Sudha Gopalakrishnan Brain Centre is undertaking a global first - 3D mapping of 100 human brains, from foetal development to old age, at cellular resolution. Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently launched the project, including C-STROKE, a first-of-its-kind atlas mapping an entire human brain affected by stroke. NDTV’s Sam Daniel got rare access to the Sudha Gopalakrishnan Brain Centre and, in an exclusive walk-and-talk, spoke to Professor Mohanashankar Sivaprakasam, who heads the centre. He explains how thousands of ultra-thin brain slices are reconstructed into detailed 3D maps, and how AI, advanced imaging and interdisciplinary research could transform our understanding of brain diseases, stroke treatment and neurosurgery.
