India Stops Ravi River Flow to Pakistan, Diverts Water to Punjab and J&K

For the first time after the Shahpur Kandi Dam was built in Punjab’s Pathankot district, work has begun to divert water from the Ravi river into the Ujh Barrage. This is the first time since Independence that Ravi river water will be used on a large scale in Jammu & Kashmir and Punjab. Earlier, all the water from the Ravi river used to flow into Pakistan via the Jammu & Kashmir and Punjab border. Farmers in Punjab, and especially in Jammu & Kashmir, had to depend on the monsoon for water.
