India's 7.8% GDP: Growth Triumph Or Statistical Debate? Politics Heats Up

India's 7.8% GDP growth has triggered a fresh political showdown, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi hailing the numbers as evidence of India's growth story despite global uncertainties. Congress, however, mocked the figures as "froth" on X, prompting the BJP to hit back with its own "cup-tea" jibe.

Union Ministers Kiren Rijiju and Piyush Goyal defended the data, accusing the Opposition of spreading pessimism and questioning the credibility of official figures. Meanwhile, economists have rejected claims that India's growth is actually just 2.6%, saying the comparison mixes two different GDP series. The political battle over what the numbers really mean, however, continues.
