"The Motor Vehicle Bill has been passed by Lok Sabha but I am waiting for over a year now to get it approved in the Rajya Sabha. I request parliamentarians to take Motor Vehicle Bill seriously and pass it on priority," said the Road Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari while speaking to NDTV on the pending Motor Vehicle Bill and how to make India's roads safer. The Motor Vehicle Act (Amendment) Bill is important due to radical changes in the law - it proposes high penalties for various traffic offences, cashless treatment for road accident victims, increased compensation for the family of the deceased, compulsory insurance and inclusion of Good Samaritan guidelines.
