Hurricane Nolo Batters Hawaii As National Guard Helps Flood-Hit Residents
Hurricane Nolo battered Hawaii as the National Guard stepped in to help residents navigate flooded streets in Naalehu. More than 120 Guard members were activated on the Big Island, while around 400 were deployed statewide after an emergency declaration. Nolo strengthened with winds of up to 90 mph, while its centre remained south of Hawaii, with no landfall expected. Forecasters warned of life-threatening flooding and mudslides, with the Big Island potentially receiving up to 20 inches of rain.
