Hajj Rules In Saudi | Saudi Arabia Suspends Slaughter Of Cows, Camels During Hajj

Days ahead of Haj, a Saudi government representative at a slaughterhouse in Mecca revealed that the Kingdom had halted the slaughter of camels and cows during the coronavirus pandemic years after concerns emerged over their possible link to the spread of the virus. The remarks are significant at a time when debates around animal slaughter, particularly cow slaughter continue to remain politically charged in India. Saudi Arabia’s decision during the health crisis reflected a public health-driven approach, where even long-standing traditions were temporarily adapted in view of safety concerns.
