H1B News Today | Union Education Minister: Only A Fraction Go Abroad, India Has 4.5 Crore Students

In an exclusive conversation with NDTV, Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan addresses students’ concerns over the steep hike in US H-1B visa fees. He says the Government of India is expanding IITs, AIIMS and central universities while allowing more foreign institutions to set up campuses in the country. With over 4.5 crore students enrolled in higher education, Pradhan stresses that only a fraction go abroad and India’s own talent pool, innovation ecosystem and institutions are strong enough to meet aspirations. He cites A.P.J. Abdul Kalam and ISRO scientists as examples of how world-class achievements can be made without foreign degrees, adding that India’s self-respect and national interest remain the government’s top priority.
