There has been a lack of rainfall during the post-monsoon season and next to no winter snowfall in some parts. The most stark example was visible in Gulmarg. A popular winter tourist destination which is known for its snow-covered slopes that attract skiers from across the country has barely received any snow this season. Meteorologists attribute the low snow to the ongoing el Nino weather event that led to 2023 being the warmest year on record but this has a far-reaching and devastating impact on the hill states.
