GST Reform | GST Bonanza: 'Sarkar Tumhari', System 'INDIA' Ka?

It's been 24 hours since the government announced a major GST overhaul - rationalising the tax slabs from four to two and exempting a large number of items from GST altogether. The move essentially translates to major savings for people across income groups: more money in your pocket - or, as the Prime Minister said today, a "double dose of support and growth."

The challenge for critics today is that there's very little to fault in the actual reforms. Few can dispute that these GST cuts will have a significant positive impact on the common man: farmers will benefit, the middle class is cheering, and - most importantly - access to healthcare and insurance will improve, thanks to reduced or removed GST on medical equipment, insurance, and life-saving drugs.

So, what's the next best thing for the opposition to do? Parties like the Congress, TMC, and AIMIM have jumped in to claim credit - arguing that the government's move was a result of their pressure and, of course, Trump's tariffs.
