Finance Minister Sitharaman Hits Back At Questions On Rupee's Depreciation

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman delivered a firm response when asked about the Indian Rupee’s recent depreciation, emphasising that the decline must be viewed in the context of a globally strengthening US Dollar rather than as an isolated weakness of the rupee. She noted that several major Asian and G‑10 currencies have also fallen amid worldwide economic pressures, including strong dollar trends, shifting capital flows, and geopolitical uncertainties. Sitharaman reiterated that India’s economic fundamentals remain strong and highlighted that currency movements are influenced by multiple global and domestic factors.
