Rangina Hamidi, daughter of former Mayor of Kandahar Ghulam Haider Hamidi who was killed in a suicide blast on 27 July, is currently in Delhi. She had escaped Afghanistan at the age of 3 during the Soviet occupation. Rangina returned to Kandahar in 2003 with a personal commitment to help lead change in Afghanistan through a unique Afghan style of embroidery. She has enabled women to earn financial and social empowerment through kha-mahk - one of the oldest and purest forms of embroidery art in the world.
