Fear Of Mining, Real Estate As New Aravalli Definition Triggers Outrage

Concerns are growing over the future of the Aravalli Hills after the Supreme Court accepted a new definition limiting protection to hills above 100 metres. While the Centre maintains that nearly 90% of the Aravallis will remain protected, activists and former forest officials have expressed deep distrust, warning that large tracts could be opened up for mining and real estate development. Environmentalists are demanding transparency and the release of Forest Survey of India data, saying the ruling could severely impact biodiversity, forest cover, and air quality across Delhi-NCR and neighbouring states.
