Across the world, winter is turning from scenic to severe. From heavy snowfall in Russia's far east to a massive pile-up on an American highway, and freezing homes in Ukraine, the cold is leaving a trail of disruption. In Russia's far east, record snowfall has transformed towns into vast white landscapes. Local authorities say the snowfall is among the heaviest seen in years. Thousands of kilometres away, winter has turned deadly on American roads. In Ukraine, winter is compounding an already harsh reality. Heavy snow and freezing temperatures have tightened their grip on homes and cities, particularly around the Kyiv region. Temperatures have plunged to minus 15 degrees Celsius, forcing residents to endure bitter cold while repair crews work from early morning until midnight to restore essential services.
