A day after Congress in-charge of Punjab, Kamal Nath resigned, he told NDTV that he should be "applauded" for the "Yeoman service" he did during the 1984 riots. "The police (at Gurudwara Rakabganj) told me 'we are wanting some more forces, please keep talking to them for a few minutes till our forces come', which I did," he said. On Rahul Gandhi he said that the sooner he takes over as Congress President the better and that it should happen "in the next couple of months".
