As the exchange of 2,000 rupee notes began today after the RBI's decision to withdraw the currency, there were several questions on banks asking for ID proofs for exchanging notes. While some asked for documents, many including the State Bank of India said no ID proofs or forms are needed to exchange notes. This led to questions on how black money will be tackled if there's no check on how many notes an individual is exchanging. Dr Ashok Kumar Lahiri, former Chief Economic Advisor, in an exclusive interview to NDTV said that those with black money anyway always find ways to exchange them, and asking for ID proofs won't help. He also added that there's no shortage of cash to exchange Rs 2,000 notes, and it's 'propaganda' to claim this.
