A political row has intensified over reports of internal objections within the Election Commission during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. A report by The Indian Express said Election Commissioners Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi had raised objections at least 14 times over 10 months. Congress has announced nationwide protests and is seeking a special Parliament session to take up a motion for the removal of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. The Opposition has also demanded further action over the reported differences within the poll panel. The Election Commission, however, has rejected the characterisation of the notes as a breakdown in functioning, saying differing views and written observations are part of routine deliberations and that its final decisions were unanimous.
