US President Donald Trump has signalled a renewed push for diplomacy with North Korea, while indicating a possible scaling back of joint US-South Korean military exercises. Trump highlighted his relationship with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, saying Kim has always treated him with great respect and that the two understand each other. Trump also said he wants to make the Korean Peninsula safer. The move comes as Washington presses South Korea to shoulder more responsibility for its own defence.
