Delhi, Bihar, Odisha: Women's Safety Under Spotlight After Spate Of Shocking Crimes
From Delhi to Bihar and Odisha, a series of disturbing crimes against women and minors has put women's safety and policing under renewed scrutiny. In Delhi, a 17-year-old girl was allegedly gang-raped in a South Delhi park by three men who posed as policemen. Separate cases involving minor girls have also been reported in Kishanganj and Sadar Bazaar, while a 16-year-old girl was allegedly gang-raped and murdered in Swaroop Nagar. In Bihar's Jamui, the main accused in the alleged harassment of a minor girl, Nandan Yadav, was shot in the leg during a police encounter after police said he tried to escape. Three other accused have also been arrested. Meanwhile, in Odisha's Dhenkanal, three people were arrested after a video showing a couple being allegedly assaulted and harassed went viral. The cases have triggered questions over women's safety, policing, accountability and the response of authorities.
