Many, especially those in the West, refer to Ratan Tata as India's Henry Ford, and with good reason too. But, despite big ambitions, Mr Tata's ride in the auto space has been both smooth as well as bumpy. While the Indica, Indigo, Sumo and Safari brand of cars were a splendid success, the Tata patriarch’s brainchild Nano hit one too many hurdles.
