China quake pushes up aluminium prices

The devastation in China, a non-ferrous metal powerhouse, has clearly thrown the aluminium sector out of gear. On the London Metal Exchange, aluminium prices are firming up, as on Thursday aluminium prices shot up to $3010/tn on fears that the earthquake toll on the Sichuan region, which produces 5 per cent of the aluminium produced in China could adversely hit supplies.
