Budget 2012: Hike excise, service tax rates to pre-crisis levels, say experts

On NDTV Profit's exclusive show, Banking on the Budget, Mukesh Butani, Chairman at BMR Advisors and Dinesh Kanabar, Deputy CEO & Chairman (Tax), KPMG, gave their views on what Budget 2012 can do to resolve tax-related issues. They feel that the Budget can move in direction of GST to ensure smooth switchover when rolled out. "Raise excise and service tax rates to pre-crisis levels," they said adding that it is also important to raise duty on gold and rationalize customs duty further.
