Of a total of about Rs 5,000 crore owed by sugar factories in Maharshtra, over Rs 500 crore are owed by factories in Ahmednagar. So far the fallout of that was borne by the Congress-NCP, but not anymore. As the BJP gained power in Maharashtra and in New Delhi, more and more sugar barons affiliated to the Congress and NCP have switched sides, bringing with them influence, but also unpaid dues.
