Bengali Singer Abused At Concert Over No 'Secular' Song, Man Arrested

A man has been arrested after Bengali singer Lagnajita Chakraborty alleged that he abused her for not singing a 'secular' song at her concert on Saturday. In a written complaint to the police, Chakraborty said the accused, Mehboob Mallik, used abusive language against her and attempted to assault her during her live show at a private school in East Midnapore's Bhagwanpur. She claimed that Mallik is the governing body member of the school. Chakraborty, who shot to fame with a Bengali track, 'Basanto Eshe Geche', said that she was singing a popular spiritual song, 'Jago Maa', when Mallik "got up on the stage and tried to physically assault" her. "He wanted to beat me up," she said.
