Amit Shah To Hold Rally In Bengal Today
Will Home Minister Amit Shah unveil a roadmap to implement the Citizenship (Amendment) Act or CAA during his visit to West Bengal? Bengal's Matua community certainly wants him too at his rally at their headquarters town Thakurnagar. Originally from the erstwhile East Bengal, many Matuas want the CAA in operation to resolve questions over their citizenship and had voted BJP in 2019. But delay in its execution has irked them, even sparking protests when the Home Minister cancelled a rally there last month. The Trinamool Congress, firmly anti-CAA, is making the most of BJP's discomfort and trying to woo back Matuas whose votes are estimated to be decisive in 70 of 294 seats in the state assembly.
