Australia's Social Media Crackdown Begins, World's First Social Media Ban for Under-16s

Australia has enforced the world’s first nationwide ban on social media for children under the age of 16, legally barring them from platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, Snapchat, YouTube and X. Tech companies could face fines of up to 49.5 million Australian dollars for non-compliance, even as platforms like Meta and X say they will follow the new rules. The move aims to curb online harm and protect children’s mental health.
